Throw a Mermaid Party for a Little Mermaid

Out of the sea, wish we could be, part of that… Party? Those lyrics sound about right. Regardless, we don’t think we’ve ever seen a mermaid-themed party we don’t want to be a part of! With the release of Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, under-the-water-themed parties are on the rise.
If your little mermaid is as obsessed with Ariel and her wonderful watery world as we are, then we are sure they will be wanting a mermaid birthday party this year. You may have gadgets and gizmos a-plenty, but can you pull off the perfect mermaid-themed party? You will after reading this article, as we’re here to inspire!
Mermaid Party Decorations
We wanted to create some mermaid magic with our under-the-sea party set-up and so we went for a core colour combination of pinks and peaches with pops of green, blues and iridescent accents. Mermaid parties don’t have to be strictly blue watery shades, you can take the favourite colour of your child and use that as your backdrop. Then you have mermaids and the best colour (opinion-based) and voila, you’ve checked off two favourites!
Balloons are a great choice for decorations, especially for giving you a bubble-effect look. You can choose clear bubble balloons or statement balloons like our green SuperSize seahorse balloon or a balloon arch. We also added a giant number balloon to match our colour scheme, in this case, pastel pink!
A fan favourite (amongst the PD staff), is our mermaid magic shell balloon mosaic, which is perfect for any mermaidcore party! The shell can be filled with small balloons to create a stunning decoration. We went for blue and lilac part-filled balloons as a homage to more traditional oceanic shades.
For further detailing, we chose a shell tassel garland from our mermaid party supplies to decorate around the table. We attached the bunting to our netted table runner, which we’ll talk about later, as it made it much easier to attach and worked as the perfect decorating hack. The bunting is gorgeous with pink tissue tassels and iridescent shells, we know we will be using it again and recycling the decoration at our next party!
The pièce de résistance of our mermaid party decor was the pink foil curtains we hung up for our party backdrops. This added a gorgeous shimmery effect, so often associated with water, although ours were pink we still felt like we were in a cool mermaid hangout spot! Alternatively, you could mix blue, green and silver curtains to replicate that under-the-sea feeling.
Dine Like a Mermaid
As promised, it’s time to talk about our net table runner! This cute nautical net is great for carrying your mermaid theme over to your table. You have the option to drape the netting over a smaller table like we have, perhaps displaying the cake or party bags, or to bunch it up and lay it across a long table where King Triton’s children will be feasting. The cream netting is adorned with glitter fish, anchors and more sea-themed icons, which are so cute for a kids' party.

Now you’ve got your party decorations and tableware, it’s time to think about what the kids are going to do. You might choose to do a screening of The Little Mermaid, whether it’s the original cartoon or Disney’s new remake starring Halle Bailey.
