How to Throw a Coronation Party

The coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort, Camilla, will take place on Saturday 6th May 2023 at West Minister Abbey. The coronation weekend of the 6th to Monday the 8th will play host to a number of ceremonial, celebratory and community events, so it's expected to really be one to remember! According to the official Royal website, the Service will reflect the Monarch's role today and look forward to the future, whilst still being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.

In this article, we will take you through how to throw the best coronation day party and make the weekend one to remember with a little help from our coronation decorations. So, get your Victoria Sponges at the ready… There’s going to be a Great British PARTY!

Coronation Table Decorations

To kick off our royal bash, let’s start by setting the table… Our full range of Union Jack tableware is fit for any banquet. We recommend starting with a tablecloth, our Union Jack paper table cover, or a plain white cloth sprinkled with red, white & blue tissue confetti.

Paper plates are a great option for parties, especially if you’re going to be throwing a coronation garden party. You’ll be able to relax knowing that your crockery isn’t going to get broken, plus it means there’s less washing up! Our Union Jack paper plates will help to keep your event on the theme, whilst being a great touch to any table.

Every table needs a crowning glory, so you can take this quite literally as this is a coronation party and crowns are the theme after all! Our crown glass decorations will look great on a champagne flute and will be sure to put a smile on your guest’s faces. When it comes to coronation party decorations, there’s no such thing as getting carried away.

Coronation Balloons and Bunting

Whether you opt for a balloon arch, balloon garland or a more simple bouquet for your coronation party, balloons are a great way to set the party mood. The red, white & blue DIY balloon garland kit from our coronation decorations range and the Union Jack flag bunting, is perfect for indoor or outdoor decoration. You can up your balloon game further with the royal crown balloon arch or some of our themed foil balloons.

Bunting is potentially the most classically British decoration you could choose for your coronation party, whether it’s a coronation street party or an indoor affair. The Great British public has been sporting red, white and blue or Union Jack bunting for decades, even since the Queen’s coronation, back in 1953! Be prepared with one of our bunting kits, you don't want to run out of bunting.

A top tip when it comes to decorations, especially if you are throwing a coronation garden party or an outdoor party, is to choose items that could work inside or outside – even if it is May, we all know how British weather can be!

Coronation Party Accessories

A fun way to get your party guests in the spirit of the occasion is to provide fancy dress novelties for everyone. Items like head boppers and photo booth props always go down a treat with adults and kids alike! This year, we’ve got everything you need and more, from Union Jack cone party hats and plastic bowler hats to crowns and glasses novelties and Union Jack head boppers

Don’t forget about coronation day party games either! There’s nothing like bringing together friends and neighbours with themed games. If you’re hosting a coronation street party, or have a larger group, a quiz would work well as guests can play together in teams. There are plenty of quizzes to download or draw inspiration from online, or our ready-made Union Jack scratch trivia cards will make being the quiz master easier than ever. What about a prize for the winners? Sweets are always a good prize.

Special Guests and Transport

Planning for how your guests might arrive at your party, or whether there is parking space available is important. However, the transport we had in mind was the transportation of sweet treats. To be more specific, we are talking about our double-decker bus treat stand! This product will not only complete any coronation day table setting, but it’s also a functional way to display cakes and other goodies.

Now that you have your decorations, activities and accessories organised, it’s time to review the guest list. We have a feeling that his majesty might be a little busy over the coronation weekend, so might not be able to attend your event. Don’t worry though, we can provide you with the next best thing! Choose from a few life-size cardboard cutouts of the king himself and surprise your guests with a royal visitor.

Whatever you are doing to celebrate the King's Coronation this May, we hope you party like a royal your way! We have plenty more Jubilee and Union Jack decorations, bunting, tableware, balloons, accessories and more right here.
